New gorillas discovered in Congo by kristina leskova

The scientists are happy to announce that they found new gorilla population in the Republic of Congo. They found almost 25 000 western lowland gorillas. This number is nearly double what they thought lived in Congo. The Republic of Congo is a country in Central Africa. We should celebrate this discovery, but we can not forget the threat of dying the gorillas. Some of the species are in danger of extinction because of Ebola virus, hunting and deforestation. The study, which was published some years ago, confirms that the Ebola Virus causes dying of gorillas and chimpanzees in Africa. This virus killed thousands of gorillas and is dangerous also for us – people. The protection of the virus is the vaccine, but the scientists do not know if the vaccine is effective for gorillas too. But they need to do something, to protect them. It is not possible to protect every gorilla. There are two possibilities how to give them the vaccine. First is the shooting of dart injections and second is giving the vaccine into the fruit they eat. Why are the gorillas so important? Because they are the part of the forest, they distribute the seeds of trees, so they garden the forest. Other threats are hunting and devastation of their living space, deforestation and many other activities which cause people. But there are many other species which are in danger. For example the number of macaque population decreased from 300 individuals per square kilometer to 20 individuals per square kilometer. So as you can see the animals are still in danger. We should be happy about the good news of finding new gorillas but we should not remain satisfied. You should try to protect them or better said to help the organizations to protect the animals which are important for our life.
