Chris Cantell Discusses Science: Geniu al stiintelor

Conform unui proverb, un prost arunca o piatra in apa si zece intelepti se chinuie sa o scoata. Ceva similar s-a intamplat in 1970 cand Benjamin Weiss, un mathematician israelo-american, si colegul sau, Roy Adler, care lucra pentru IBM au lansat problema drumului colorat cu o imoprtanta enorma pentru dinamica simbolurilor. De atunci toti din acest domeniu au incercat sa o resolve, dar numai Avraham Trahtman, un immigrant in varsta de 63 de ani, a reusit. Problema Drumului Colorat se refera la instructii sincronizate, adica cineva poate loca un obiect sau destinatie din orice punct al unei retele doar urmand niste simple instructii. Hartile si stiinta computerelor pot fi unele din beneficiarele unei astfel de descoperiri. Weiss si-a exprimat fericirea ca problema sa a fost in sfarsit rezolvata si Stuart Margolis, cel care l-a angajat pe Trahtman sa predea la Bar Ilan University langa Tel Aviv, a subliniat maretia unui astfel de rezultat precum si a descoperitorului. Trahtman a emigrat din Rusia in 1992 ca si matematician implinit, dar despartirea de Uniunea Sovietica i-a ingreunat situatia de a-si gasi de lucru in statul evreu si asa a devenit chiar si paznic de noapte pentru a-si dobandi traiul. Din fericire, el a fost angajat ca profesor dupa cum am mentionat mai sus. A fost retinut in a-si povesti viata si in ciuda satisfacerii unui astfel de descoperiri, el a marturisit ca a ramas la fel. Solutia oferita de el este valabila pe Internet si Jurnalul de Matematica evreu o va publica. Un alt puzzle ca acesta a fost rezolvat in 1994 de matematicianul britanic Andrew Wiles care a rezolvat teorema lui Fermat ce nu fusese eluciadata vreme de 300 de ani. Acestea sunt showuri reale care spun ca ideile nebunesti pot duce la descoperir marete.
