Success of striking writers
by Ivana Bruderova

Since the November 5 lasts the strike of Hollywood writers who now reach their first success. After two months of striking they sign an agreement with Tom Cruise's United Artist Films. "We have a deal that will put people back to work," said Patric M. Verrone president of the WGA-Writers Guild of America, West. But this deal is only the first step, not the final solution. We could think about how significant this agreement is because United Artist is not a member of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, as the major studios MGM, Sony and Disney do. "Understands the desire of United Artists to resume its business activities but respectfully disagrees with its decision to sign an interim agreement." said MGM in their statement. It seems to be a long way for the writers. The main problem for writers is, nowadays in a time of the new media, profits for the large film studios came also from programming on the Internet and other media. The writers are cut of this profits and this are not only a little money so they want to put film studios under pressure to aware they depend on writer's work. The United Artists Films is company which in his golden age stand by such a famous names as Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. In last years is lead by Tom Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner. "We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the WGA," she said. The writers continuing strike against other studios.
