It's getting shaky
by Claudia Sonea

Nature seems punitive sometimes and that through various calamities. Earthquakes are one of those calamities that ran shivers down one’s back. Scientists are pulling their weight in predicting them and preventing not only human casualties, but also material damage. Reno is a city in Nevada (the third most seismically active state following Alaska and California) that lately has been hit by hundreds of earthquakes. The University of Nevada, Reno's Seismological Laboratory in northern Nevada is trying to find a reason to the 500 mostly minor quakes recorded as the "Mogul earthquake sequence" and started 28 February. In the survey made they kept in count the movement that takes place in the ground and the damage caused. Although Governor Jim Gibbons was informed by emergency management officials and UNR seismologists, it is still not sure whether the quake already took place or it is about to happen. The small ones that preceded or followed a greater earthquake caused some material damages, but fortunately enough it did not managed to harm anyone except emotionally. In order to prevent this from happening, the survey must study how homes are positioned and noting which walls pictures fell from. Let us all pray for the people in Reno, so they don’t get a 6 or a 7 magnitude earthquake, thus facing intensive damage. In 1914 was the last time Reno had a 6.1 magnitude earthquake and succeeded to go on. The city’s residents are really agitated and the confused scientists worsen things by not disclosing any information to them. Diane dePolo, a network seismologist at the University of Nevada, Reno's Seismological Laboratory confesses that is very difficult to even find a cause for everything.
