Historical moment for the solar aircraft
by Zivka Deleva

Thursday, 9.01 am, July 8 for the meaning of the science and human development may be concerned as one historical moment. Solar powered aircraft landed in Switzerland after being in the air for some 26 hours. The pilot of this experimental Solar Impulse aircraft was Andre Borshberg who landed at Payerne airbase in western part of the country. According to team-chief Bertrand Piccard, this is the first time ever for a solar airplane to flow at night time. The company Solar Impulse had an idea to make the high-tech single seater aircraft work only on pure solar energy. It seems like it has achieved that. Like almost half a century ago, this is one more little step for the ! company, but big for the mankind. The Swiss maestros, adventurers and engineers wish that their plane is going to fly over the globe. They had a big reason why to celebrate, because they made the longest solar flight. “We will stay up there as long as possible. Hopefully, he will still be in the air at sunrise tomorrow. That is the challenge” – stated the project’s co-founder Piccard. The plane flew over the Jura mountain near the Swiss Alps. Technicians counted that the batteries charged from the 12,000 solar cells put into the wings and body – will keep the machine in the air through the night. And it really did so. At the early dawn, they had to recharge the batteries. The name of the pilot Andre Borshberg will become historical, just like the one of Valentina Tereshkova, like Nicholas Copernicus, like many others. Around 800 curious visitors came to see the solar airplane lending.
