China say no to plastic bags

by Ivana Bruderova

The China's Cabinet issued order which will be very helpful to environment. After years of critic about environmental politic of China, neglecting international agreements, this is important step for country. The order prohibits plastic bags usually given by supermarkets for free. This form of waste is one of the most polluting, accumulating on the dumps because the material don't decompose in the nature. In general, people in China welcome this issue. "I think it really shows that China is being responsible country," said the 21-old student. It means return to the cloth bags, that can be used for many times.China is not the first country which want to fight against pollution this way. Similar orders were already issued by Taiwan, Ireland and some parts of South Africa. The shopkeepers started to provide plastic bags for free about 15 years ago. In U.S. which has quarter residents than China, is throw away about 100 billions plastic bags per year! On bags will be read: 'Please return this bag to a participating store for recycling' to motivate people don't throw away this bags to a bins. The capacity of landfills are low to the still rising number of waste produced by people. Many areas are so polluted now that people and animals can't live there any more. The balance of the nature is so delicate and to destroy it is so easy."The State Council's announcement to ban free plastic bags is perfect case to combine the two of the major forces in environmental protection: public participation and government policy guidance." said Greenpeace.
