Vselenskoto letalo "Atlantis"

Kejp Kanaveral vo Florida e mestoto od kade poleta ušte edno vselensko letalo, vo ponedelnikot na 16 noemvri. Vesmírna raketa Atlantis

Mys Canaveral na Floride je miesto, kde v pondelok 16.novembra odštartovala ďalšia vesmírna raketa. Táto bola nazvaná Atlantis, pozostáva zo šesťčlennej posádky a jej návrat je naplánovaný po jedenástich dňoch. To znamená, že posádka strávi deň vďakyvzdania vo vesmíre. Po úspešnom štarte vesmírna raketa v súčasnosti krúži vo vesmíre s cieľom spojiť sa s medzinárodnou vesmírnou stanicou. Tento cieľ by mal byť dosiahnutý v stredu. Až do tohto dňa astronauti budú kontrol! ovať ich raketu, či nie je poškodená. Väčšinu času budú venovať kontrole tepelného krytu ich rakety. Pretože nikto nechce, aby sa zopakovala pohroma, ktorá sa spája s vesmírnou raketou Columbia. Tá sa udiala pred šiestimi rokmi. Čo sa tam presne stalo? Vesmírna raketa s názvom Columbia sa už vracala na Zem, ale nemôžeme hovoriť o úspešnom pristáti. Počas štartu tejto vesmírnej rakety došlo k miernemu poškodeniu, avšak nikto si nemyslel, že takto malé poškodenie môže spôsobiť až takú katastrofu. Celá sedemčlenná posádka zahynula. Krátko po štarte sa z externej nádrže ulomil malý kúsok tepelnej izolačnej peny. Ak by toto poškodenie mohlo byť opravené počas pobytu vo vesmíre, je možn! 3;, že by sa posádka vrátila. Ale naneš! 57;astie sa tak nestalo. Dnes existujú prísne bezpečnostné opatrenia, pretože každý z nás chce, aby sa astronauti vrátili domov. Úradníci z NASA sledovali obrázky z odštartovania a povedali, že tam nevideli nič, čoho by sa bolo treba obávať. Avšak posádka skontroluje celú raketu a o výsledkoch bude informovať. Atlantis nesie na vesmírnu stanicu obrovské náhradné diely. Vesmírny program bude však čoskoro úplne ukončený a to koncom budúceho roka. Už je naplánovaných len niekoľko ďalších letov a potom bude program definitívne ukončený.

Space shuttle Atlantis

Cape Canaveral in Florida is a place where another space shuttle started on Monday 16th of November. This one was named Atlantis, includes six people as a crew and is planned to come back after eleven days. That means that this crew will spent their Thanksgiving Day in the space. After a successful start the space shuttle circles now in the space with the aim to connect with International Space Station. This aim should be reached on Wednesday. Until this day astronauts have to check whether their space shuttle is not damaged. Mostly they will check the thermal shielding of their shuttle. Because nobody wants to repeat the disaster of space shuttle Columbia which happened si! x years ago. What happened there? Space shuttle Columbia was returning on the Earth but did not land successfully. During the start of this space shuttle it was little bit damaged, but nobody thought that this small damage could cause such a disaster. All seven members of Columbia died. Shortly after the start a small piece of thermal insulation foam broke off the External Tank. If this damage would be repaired the crew could come back. But unfortunately this did not happen. Nowadays there are strict security rules because everybody wants that astronauts will come back. The NASA officials watched the launch images and they said there is nothing to be worry about. Anyway the crew will check their space shuttle and inform about it. Atlantis is delivering big spare components to the space station. The space program is planned to be finished by the end of the next year and there will be only few other flights. After that this program will be definitely finished.

Nový druh dinosaura objavený v južnej Afrike

Nový druh dinasaura, ktorý žil na zemi pred vyše 200 miliónmi rokov, môže pomôcť vedcom vysvetliť vývin dinosaurov v najväčšie zvieratá na zemi. Aardonyx celestea bol sedem metrov dlhý bylinožravec s malou hlavou a mohutnou hruďou. Kráčal na svojich zadných dvoch nohách, avšak dokázal chodiť i po štyroch, z čoho vedci usudzujú, že práve tento druh je spájajúcou čiastkou v evolučnom vývine dinosaurov. Austrálsky paleontológ Adam Yates povedal, že doteraz sa ešte nestretol s tý! ;mto novým druhom, ktorý má dôležité a významné miesto v rodine dinosaurov. Adam Yates viedol vedecký výskm a jeho tím pozostával z mnohých miestnych rovnako ako aj zahraničných vedcov. Ich správa bola zverejnená v londýnskom časopise Proceedings of The Royal Society B. Aarodnyx celestea žil v období skorej jury. Yates povedal, že objavený dinosaurus bol približne 1,7 metra vysoký a vážil približne 500 kilogramov. Zomrel asi vo veku 10 rokov, vedci sa domnievajú, že príčinou smrti bolo utopenie. Novoobjavený druh dinosaura má mnoho podobných čŕt s bylinožravcami, ktorí chodili na dvoch nohách, avšak má aj mnoho spoločného s dinosaurami sauropodmi a brontosaurami, ktorí mali dlhé krky a chvosty, chodili po štyroch a dosahovali obrovské! ; rozmery. Paul Barret, paleontológ z Britského pr! íro dného historického múzea, povedal, že objav vyplní medzeru v poznaní o evolúcii sauropodov. Aardonyxh je príkladom dvojnohého zvieraťa, ktoré začínalo získavať špeciálne črty blízke zvieratám chodiacich po štyroch. Dôvod preč a ako dinosaury narástli do obrovských rozmerov však naďalej otázkou, na ktorú vedci nedokážu nájsť odpoveď. Matther Bonnan z Illinoiskej univerzity sa domnieva, že chôdza po štyroch im umožnila niesť väčšiu záťaž. Dinosaurus bol pred piatimi rokmi objavený postgraduálnym študentom Marcom Blackbeardom v južnej Afrike.

New dinosaur species found in SAfrica

Recently discovered dinosaur species that lived about 200 million years ago may help scientists explain how the animals evolved into the largest ones on land.   The Aardonyx celestae was 7 meter long herbivore with small head and a huge chest. It walked on its hind legs but could also walk on all four, and scientist suppose that could be a missing evolutionary link.   Australian paleontologist Adam Yates told that no one has seen before this new spice which has very significant and important place in the family tree of dinosaurs.   Adam Yates was a leader of the research and his team consisted of a number of local and international scientists.  Their ! report was published Wednesday in the Proceedings of The Royal Society B, a London journal.   The Aarodnyx celestea species lived in the early Jurassic period. Yates said the found dinosaur was nearly 1.7 meters high and weighted about 500 kilograms. It was about 10 years old when it died, scientists suppose that his death was caused by drought.   The newly discovered dinosaur has many similar characteristics with the herbivores that walked on two legs but there are also similarities with dinosaurs known as sauropods and brontosaurs with long necks and tails, which were very big and went on all fours.   Paul Barrett, a paleontologist at the British Natural History Museum, told that the discovery helps to fill a gap in knowledge of sauropod evolution. Aardonyx is an example of how two-legged animal could start to acquire the specific features necessary for live on all-four.   The reason why and how dinosaurs grew into such massive sizes is a question th! at scientists are still not able to answer. Matthew Bonnan of ! Western Illinois University thins that walking on all fours allowed them to carry more weight. The dinosaur was discovered by postgraduate student Marc Blackbeard in central South Africa about five years ago.

Úspech v súťaži o najlepší vesmírny výťah

V stredu našli Vesmírne výťahové hry sľubujúce odemnu dva milóny amerických dolárov konečne svojho víťaza. Hry testujú možnosti zrealizovania konceptu vesmírnych víťahov, ktorý zatiaľ funguje iba v sci-fi románoch. Zaujímavej súťaže sa zúčastnili tímy z Missouri, Aljašky a Seattlu. Hry sa odohrávajú na dne vyschnutého jazera v Mohavskej púšti, miesto je verjnosti známe ako priestávajúca dráha pre vesmírne rakety. Robotické stroje sú poháňané laserom a v ! testoch majú za úlohu zdolať lano zavesené z vrtluníku, ktorý je asi v kilometrovej výške. Robot tímu LaserMotives sa dostal na vrchol len za štyri minúty a okamžite výstup zopakoval, čím sa kvalifikoval na druhé miesto. Nick Burrows, člen tímu, prekvapene povedal, že robot sa pred tým nikdy nedostal vyššie ako 24 metrov. Dvaja riaditelia LaserMotive, Jordin Kare a Thomas Nugent, povedali, že úspech je pre nich skutočnou odmenou po dvoch rokoch ťažkej práce a dodali, že ich skutočným cieľom nie je futuristická idea dostať sa do vesmíru pomocou výťahu. Naopak, ich pravým cieľom je založiť obchod postavený na využití energie žiarenia. Súťaž dokázala, že ich princíp funguje, a to znamená, že ak by niekto potrebova! l dostať energie na miesto, kde nemôže zavies&#! 357; k&# 225;ble, oni by sa k nemu dostali. Pred súťažou organizátori hodiny testovali káblový systém a napĺňali nádrž helikoptére. Tím Vesmírny piráti z Kansas City súťažili ako prví, avšak ich zariadenie bolo príliš pomalé na to, aby získalo cenu. Súťaž podporuje program NASA, ktorý skúma technológiu na vytvorenie vesmírneho výťahu. Príprava súťaže im trvala päť rokov. V budúcnosti by mal byť vesmírny výťah, narozdiel od nákladných vesmírnych rakiet, novou jednoduchšiou cestou do vesmíru.

Success in 'space elevator' competition

On Wednesday a $2 million technical competition which tested the potential reality of the science fiction concept of space elevators took place in Rogers Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert. The interesting contest involved teams from Missouri, Alaska and Seattle which brought their robots to the Mojave Desert, known as a space shuttle landing site. The machines were supposed to climb nearly 1 kilometer up a cable dangling from a helicopter. LaserMotive's robot powered by ground-based laser beam climbed to the top in only four minutes, immediately repeated the feat and so qualified for a second-place prize. Nick Burrows, team member, said that the robot had never climbed highe! r that 80 feet previously. Two principals of LaserMotive, Jordin Kare and Thomas Nugent, said this success is a real reward after two years of hard word and added that their real goal is not the futuristic idea of accessing space through an elevator climbing cable. Their real aim is to create business based on the idea of beaming power. However, the competition proved that beaming power works. That means they would be able to deliver power to anybody who needs power in one place and can not run wires to it. Before the competition, it took hours to test the cable system and refuel the helicopter. The team Kansas City Space Pirates went first, but their machine was to slow to win any price. The contest was founded by a NASA program to explore bold technology, it took five years to prepare the competition. In future space elevator ought to be a new way to reach space without expensive rockets.

Traja sutaziaci z rozlicnych americkch statov- Missouri, z Aljask! y a zo Seatla- boli spolocne zlakani viziou financnej vyhry neuveritelnych 2 miliony americkych dolarov do Mohavskej pusti pri jazero Roger Drive Lake, ktore verejnost skor pozna ako miesto pristavania vesmirnych rakiet. Space elevators

Spave elevators- just an infant idea of futute of travelling in space, or something that is really about to happen, and i tis knocking on the door of presence ? Maybe both..This theory originate to 1960´s and was popularized by Arthur C. Clarke in 1979´s novel “The Fountains of Paradise“. Nobody knew at that time, that things like those are posible. And today, NASA is in charge of competition leading to creating the real space elevator. Science fiction concept of space elevators is coming true in the competition organized by NASA. Three competitors from different American states- Missouri, Alaska ad Seattle- were together brought by the vision of fant! astic 2 million winning prize to Mojave desert to Roger Drive Lake, better known as the place of landing on of space shuttles. The Contest requires, that space elevators created by the companies in high technical status could climb 2,953 feet up a cable dangling down from a helicopter in nearly 1 mile high. All the machines are powered from a ground-based laser beams. One of them- LaserMotive´s vehicle was able to do this in something more than 4 minutes and immediatelly was able to repeat the act. As the another one- was completely unable to do the procedure, the LaseMotive would qualify itself at least to second prize- which means the 900, 000 dollar prize. All the process- the whole competition story has been in progress for five years, but the first three of them brought no results. Space elevators are believed to reach space without the expeses of rockets.
